As part of the North American 'Shine A Light on Antisemitism' initiative
TJFF PRESENTS A FREE FILM MASTERCLASS WITH DR. ERIC GOLDMAN
Since World War II, Hollywood filmmakers have repeatedly, though often reluctantly, explored the hate that will not die. Some, particularly members of the North American Jewish Establishment, were fearful that raising the issue might cause greater harm than good.
The issue of antisemitism as subject for cinema has always been hotly contested. How have these explorations changed over time? Most recently, filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Lynn Novick, Sarah Botstein, Ken Burns, Barry Levinson, and Spike Lee have stepped forward to use cinema to fight bigotry. Studying these films proves quite revealing.
