The Women’s Art Association of Canada
presents “Memory Unearthed: Henryk Ross’s Photography of Resistance”
with Maia-Mari Sutnik, Curator Emeritus, Photography,
Art Gallery of Ontario on November 14, 2024
In commemoration of the liquidation of the Lodz Ghetto 80 years ago, WAAC presents Maia Sutnik speaking about the photography of resistance of Henryk Ross, who documented the struggles of the Jewish community incarcerated in the Lodz Ghetto from 1941-1944. Prior to the deportations to Auschwitz and the destruction of the Ghetto, Ross buried his negatives into the ground for safekeeping. Ultimately, Ross’s photographs were entered as evidence at the Eichmann trial in Israel in 1961.
Maia-Mari Sutnik, Curator Emeritus, Photography, Art Gallery of Ontario initiated the collection and exhibition of photography at the AGO. Ms Sutnik is the recipient of many honours, most recently the Order of Canada.
