Join us for a special event combining great music with a delicious and authentic Jewish meal!
Latvian-born, Berlin-based vocalist Sasha Lurje is best known to Toronto audiences for her show-stopping appearances at the last two Ashkenaz Festivals. She returns to Toronto this month to debut “Goyfriend,” her exciting new collaboration with the unique Brooklyn-based klezmer band Litvakus. This diverse project explores the image of the Jews and their representations in the folk culture of their neighbours over 600 years of common history, offering a unique window into the dialogue between Jewish, Slavic and Baltic cultures.
The event will take place at A Yiddishe Mame restaurant in Thornhill (1416 Centre Street). Admission includes a tasty Moldavian-Jewish homestyle meal (vegetarian options available).
There are two seatings, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Seating is limited to approximately 45 people in each time slot.
The event is co-presented by Ashkenaz and the Schwartz/Reisman Centre, and is sponsored by JCC Association’s Making Music Happen Centennial Grant Initiative, funded by a grant from Marvin J. Pertzik and the Mary Livingston Griggs and Mary Griggs Burke Foundation.
