The Film

Thirty-six stained-glass windows once illuminated the women’s gallery and the doors of the old Shomrim LaBoker synagogue on Rue Saint-Dominique in Montreal. Over the years, as the building underwent transformations, the windows disappeared.

 

Writer-director Simcha Shtull sets out to find the missing windows. While essentially a family story, her film paints a broader picture of the immigrant experience in early Jewish Montreal, and examines the attachments and meanings we find in ordinary objects.
