George Gershwin wrote a song for Porgy and Bess, “It Ain’t Necessarily So,” which casts doubt on some tall tales in the Bible. This doubt often occurs due to a misunderstanding of the text. Here’s a sample of the questions we’ll try to straighten out in this course: Did Adam and Eve really sin? And what was the fruit they ate? Are the “Ten Commandments” really commandments? And what does the Sh’ma really mean? Did the Jews kill Jesus? And Are homosexual relations condemned in the Bible?
