Community Building and Growth 

AngloSderot—the English-speaking community network in UJA’s partner community of Sderot—has now expanded to 100 members, creating an increasingly active network for English-speaking residents and olim in Sderot. To support a growing young adult demographic, a dedicated young professionals AngloSderot group was launched, providing opportunities for young adults and couples to connect, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen their sense of community.  

The group recently hosted a women’s Tisha B’Av Eicha reading, followed by learning and an open discussion. Around 20 women participated, creating a meaningful space for connection, reflection, and learning. A summer woodworking workshop for couples and young professionals also brought people together, helping participants build relationships, strengthen connections within the English-speaking community, and enjoy a creative evening together. Chava Nachshonov, Sderot’s Deputy Mayor, also participated in the workshop.  

Aliyah & Absorption 

This summer three families are making Aliyah to Sderot — two families from New York and one from Dallas. A program run by the Jewish Agency for Israel and funded in part by UJA has been working closely with the families to help them navigate their transition to Sderot, including connecting them with educational institutions and assisting with the various practical needs involved in their move. In addition, three more olim families are moving to Sderot from within Israel, further strengthening the growing English-speaking community. 

AngloSderot is currently strengthening its brand and promoting both the community and the Aliyah opportunities in Sderot. The goal is to make the process clearer and more accessible for potential olim while showcasing the growing community.  

It is exciting to see AngloSderot continuing to grow—both through new Aliyah and through community programming that creates meaningful opportunities for connection, belonging, and integration.
