Hate-Motivated Assault at Thornhill Synagogue Under Investigation

York Regional Police’s Hate Crime Unit is investigating a hate-motivated incident at the Sephardic Kehila Centre in Thornhill that took place on Saturday, April 25. At around 9:30 AM, a male suspect allegedly attempted to force his way into the synagogue on Bathurst Street, just north of Steeles Avenue, and assaulted a victim before fleeing the scene. Police are actively searching for the suspect. UJA Federation of Greater Toronto released a statement condemning the attack, saying that while the community member was not seriously injured, what occurred “does not lessen the seriousness of the attack, which reflects a continued pattern of antisemitic violence targeting our community.”
