BE THE LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

This week, as a united community, we will infuse the world with good and shine our collective light in the darkness. We will honour all of the hostages we’ve lost while driving awareness to the youngest ones by shining orange for the world to see.

There are three simple ways to shine the light:

  1. Brighten the world with orange.

  • Wear orange clothing
  • Pick up a button from one of the three campuses/JCCs
  • Illuminate your house or business with orange by changing outdoor light bulbs to orange ones
  • Put up this sheet in the window

  1. Brighten the world with a mitzvah.

Judaism is rooted in mitzvahs and kindness. Shine light into the darkness by going out into the community and doing something good this week in honour of a hostage who has passed away. Some suggestions include:

  • Go to a local park and pick up garbage
  • Make a meal for your neighbour
  • Shovel someone else’s driveway
  • Donate food to a local food bank
  • Invite someone to your shabbat table
  • Hold your own Littlest Volunteer Hot Chocolate Stand
  • Light Shabbat candles this Friday
  • Bake a challah for Shabbat

  1. Brighten the world online.

  • Post a picture of yourself doing your mitzvah
  • Change your profile picture to orange
  • Post an orange image on your feed and story
  • Don't forget to tag UJA (@UJAFederation)

Together, we will be the light—shining bright for all to see—and honour those who were taken far too soon. Am Yisrael Chai.
