IsraAID members are working with local partners on the ground in Haiti and are offering their expertise in disaster aid to the local government. The team which includes emergency medical staff is based in Israel and is expected to arrive in Haiti imminently.

United Jewish Appeal has committed $45,000 for the search and rescue effort by IsraAID.
IsraAID is a coordinating body of Israeli and Jewish NGOs in Israel that are active in development and relief work and has provided humanitarian aid worldwide. United Jewish Appeal has previously supported IsraAID’S work following the Peru Earthquake, work on the border of Darfur, relief aid following the earthquake in Pakistan, aid to Katrina evacuees in New Orleans, aid to Somali camps in Kenya and recently, the cyclone in Burma and the typhoon in the Philippines.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and has a history of destructive natural disasters. Some 9,000 U.N. police and troops are stationed there to maintain order.
