United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto (UJA) officially launches its annual campaign tomorrow evening, Tuesday, August 25 at 7:30 pm at the Air Canada Centre with keynote speaker Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs who will talk about the importance of team building. UJA is the Jewish community’s key fundraising, planning, allocations and infrastructure improvement organization - one of Canada’s largest non-profit entities representing the most sizeable Jewish population in the country. For over 90 years, UJA has served the community’s most vulnerable. Last year, the UJA annual campaign raised $65 million.
Some of the social services that UJA Federation supports in Toronto include:
The Jewish Family and Child agency, that provides assistance for the Jewish poor, programs for abused women and hospice care, among many other services
Programs for isolated seniors
Below-market rents for low-income families
Reena, serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
JIAS –Jewish Immigrant Aid Services connecting newcomers to the community
JVS (formerly Jewish Vocational Services) providing job placement and employment counselling for Jews and non-Jews alike.
