Today marks three years since October 7.
The memory of those we lost, and of everything that changed that day, remains deeply with us. This year, however, we also mark October 7 knowing that all the hostages have finally returned home. There is enormous relief in that, even as we continue to hold close the families and communities who have carried such profound loss.
There is no simple way to hold all of those emotions at once.
We remember. We grieve. And we also recognize the strength, resolve and sense of responsibility that have carried Israelis and Jewish communities forward over the past three years.
That is what we wanted to reflect in this special edition.
We know that recovery does not happen on a timetable. Healing - physical, emotional and communal - is long-term work. It takes sustained commitment, strong partnerships, and a community willing to remain engaged long after the initial moment of crisis has passed.
I am deeply grateful for the commitment our community has shown over the past three years. It is a powerful reminder that while October 7 changed so much, it did not diminish our instinct to care for one another, to help rebuild, and to keep moving forward together.
Today, we honour all those whose lives were taken, including eight Canadians, and we remember the remarkable courage of those who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable circumstances to help, protect and save others.
Their courage is part of the legacy we carry forward.
For me, honouring that legacy means more than remembering one day each year. It means continuing to stand with those rebuilding their lives, continuing to strengthen the communities around them, and continuing to choose unity and responsibility for one another.
Whether you mark today together with community or in your own quiet way, I hope you find comfort in knowing that we remember together- and that we remain committed to what comes next.
May their memories be for a blessing.
