UJA Federation of Greater Toronto is delighted to announce the generous gift of $3 million to UJA Federation’s Tomorrow Campaign, made by husband and wife philanthropists and community leaders, Ed and Fran Sonshine.
The outstanding contribution made by the Sonshines will greatly assist in the development of the Tomorrow Campaign’s Sherman Campus Phase 2, which includes the new and expanded Prosserman Jewish Community Centre.
"When we arrived as immigrants to Toronto, a strong Jewish community already existed,” said Fran and Ed. “We believe that those of us who are in a position to do so, should place high on their priorities the strengthening of our wonderful community. Helping to complete the Sherman Campus to serve as a vibrant centre for all, is one of the best ways we could think of to do that.”
Sherman Campus is located on Bathurst Street north of Sheppard Avenue. In Phase 2, the campus will add a new 90,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility for the Prosserman JCC, which will include Ed & Fran Sonshine Way, the indoor “main street” connecting the three major buildings on the campus.
“Community Centres are proven recreational hubs of health, culture and education and are vital to building strong communities,” said Fred Waks, Chair of the Sherman Campus Campaign. “This visionary gift has given us tremendous momentum for the Sherman Campaign. Ed and Fran are exemplary philanthropists and community leaders and we are so appreciative of their wonderful support.”
