Lion Cub

lion cub.

A young woman of bat mitzvah age. A relative of a Lion of Judah. A future changemaker for our community.
Also known as: LC

From UJA Women’s Philanthropy, Lion Cub is a program for young women as they celebrate the occasion of their bat mitzvah. An extension of Lion of Judah, this program is designed to foster community and inspire the value of tzedakah and tikkun olam in the next generation of Jewish women.

Consisting of a series of in-person sessions in Toronto throughout the academic school year—starting in September and concluding in June—the Lion Cub program will provide young women with meaningful opportunities to volunteer, learn, and grow together while stepping into their roles as future changemakers of our community.

HELLO FROM LION CUB FOUNDER

ILANA MAZUR

For many years, I've proudly embraced being a Lion of Judah, driven by my passion for philanthropy and creating positive change. As a mother to daughters, I'm increasingly mindful of the importance of nurturing the next generation of women who will lead our community and tackle the world's challenges head-on.

Before every Lion of Judah event—whether a night out or a day of volunteering—my eldest daughter excitedly asks many questions. Where am I going? What will I be doing? Can she come too? As she was approaching her bat mitzvah year, I began to wonder how she might meaningfully mark this milestone. Then I thought: what if she can truly be part of a Lion of Judah experience? Before long, the idea of creating a program for future generations who will carry on the incredible Lion of Judah legacy was born.

It is with great excitement that I introduce the UJA Lion Cub program not just to my daughter, but to all of you. This is a special group of young women in their bat mitzvah year, who will come together for volunteering opportunities, unique learning experiences, and tailored social activities. Together, Lion Cubs will foster a network of like-minded peers who value Jewish identity and a deep sense of community, all while having a blast.

I cannot wait to see all that UJA Lion Cubs will achieve together. I have no doubt they will be the future changemakers of our Toronto Jewish community.

With love,

Ilana
