SPEAKERS

Brent Belzberg, C.M., Founder and Senior Managing Partner, TorQuest

Following the sale of Harrowston Inc., a publicly traded investment fund that helped build businesses for 10 years, Brent formed TorQuest in 2002.

Outside TorQuest, Brent serves as a Director of CIBC and Mount Sinai Hospital. He is the Chair of Sinai Health Systems and is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the University of Toronto. Brent’s previous outside directorships include O&Y REIT and Four Seasons Hotels. Brent was president of First City Financial Corporation from 1991-93. In 2018, Brent was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work as a business leader and philanthropist.

Brent received a B.Comm. (Honours) from Queen’s University in 1972 and a JD from the University of Toronto in 1975.

Bruce Ferman, Chief Operating Officer, BMO Private Wealth

Bruce Ferman is the Chief Operating Officer for BMO Private Wealth, BMO’s network of 3,200 Investment Advisors, Private Bankers, Wealth Planning, Trust and Insurance professionals. He also leads the Client Solutions Group, overseeing the development and implementation of integrated product, service, and operational strategies that support front line teams in providing meaningful solutions to the clients they serve. In addition, Bruce is Chief Executive Officer for BMO Private Investment Counsel Inc., offering discretionary investment advisory services to Canadian families.

Bruce has been in the investment industry for over 20 years and joined BMO in 2012 as SVP and Managing Director, Private Client Group Products & Services for BMO Nesbitt Burns. Since then he has held a series of progressively senior executive roles supporting BMO Nesbitt Burns and BMO Private Investment Council, Inc., most recently as Head, Investment Management for BMO Private Wealth. In this role, Bruce was responsible for developing and delivering investment and wealth advisory products and services, and providing ongoing insight and thought leadership to clients.

Bruce is routinely engaged as an industry expert, and contributes as a speaker and to publications, such as Investment Executive and the Globe and Mail. Prior to joining BMO, Bruce held a variety of executive roles at several of Canada’s independent investment advisory organizations.

Bruce is an avid volunteer in the community and has spent many years coaching hockey, soccer, and baseball. He is also active in the Investment Industry Association of Canada (IIAC), which provides members with advice and advocacy on policy issues pertaining to the retail business and securities industry. As a member of the Private Client Committee of the IIAC, Bruce is focused on building investor confidence and developing measures to enhance industry reputation and profile.

Richard Pilosof, Principal and Chief Executive Officer, RPIA

Richard Pilosof is a founding partner and the Chief Executive Officer of RPIA, one of the largest alternative asset management firms in Canada.

Prior to founding RPIA, Richard spent over 25 years with RBC Capital Markets, where he served as Managing Director and Head of Global Debt Markets. Richard was also responsible for developing and building RBC’s international capital markets platform, now with significant operations in London, Hong Kong, Sydney, and New York.

Richard is an active community volunteer, serving as a Director on the Mt. Sinai Hospital Board and as Campaign Chair for the Mt. Sinai Hospital Foundation, where he is also a member of the Philanthropy Executive Council, the Stewardship Council, and the Gift Acceptance Committee. He is currently a board member of the Ontario Junior Hockey League Foundation and President of the Pickering Panthers Junior A Hockey Club.

Richard holds a BA in Finance from Coastal Carolina University.

Mo Lidsky, Chief Executive Officer, Prime Quadrant

Mo is the Chief Executive Officer at Prime Quadrant. Prior to Prime Quadrant, Mo founded and led organizations in industries as diverse as education, auto restoration, e-commerce, and microfinance.

Philanthropically, Mo is the current Chairman of CAF Canada, the Prime Quadrant Conference, and the Prime Quadrant Foundation. Mo also sits on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including CJPAC, Hebrew University, and Holland Bloorview Hospital.

Mo has served on numerous investment committees and had a five-year tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of Yeshiva University (Canada), where he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of strategic development, recruitment, and managing the Canadian endowment.

Mo has authored or co-authored four books, including Partners in Preservation: How to Know Your Advisor Is Truly Protecting Your Wealth, The Philanthropic Mind: Surprising Discoveries from Canada’s Top Philanthropists, In Search of the Prime Quadrant: The Quest for Better Investment Decisions, and Selling Snake Oil: Investment Lessons from the World’s Greatest Frauds.

In recognition of his contributions to the community and innovative leadership, Mo has been selected as the recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award. However, his greatest distinction continues to be his extraordinary wife and five adorable children.

Mo holds multiple degrees, including a BA in Economics (Magna Cum Laude ) from Yeshiva University and an MBA from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
