Join us for “Community Responses to Addressing Isolation,” the latest session in the One Community Cares: Knowledge Exchange speaker series.

 

The webinar will feature Julia Migounova from the Bernard Betel Centre and Jonathan Handel from JACS Toronto as they explain the context and consequences of isolation within the Jewish community, including:

 

  • How isolation affects one's mental health
  • Structural and social factors that contribute to isolation
  • How the pandemic showed potential detrimental outcomes
  • How October 7th has contributed to isolation

 

They will discuss isolation’s effects within different populations and illustrate the pitfalls and potential solutions. The webinar will also include an overview of tools, resources, and prevention strategies to help attendees feel better equipped to manage isolation within themselves and their communities.

SPEAKERS

Julia Migounova, BSW, MSW, RSW. Director, Clinical and Community Support Services, Bernard Betel Centre

Julia Migounova is an accomplished leader with more than 20 years of clinical experience in social services. As the clinical director at the Bernard Betel Centre, Julia oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of community support services. Fluent in English and Russian, she has extensive experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Julia is particularly passionate about supporting vulnerable seniors, Holocaust survivors, and elderly newcomers. She created and implemented the Safe Option Program, which addresses elder abuse by providing resources and safe pathways for those affected. Julia has also organized and facilitated national conferences on elder abuse in ethnic communities, advocating for awareness and systemic change.

Jonathan Handel, RSW MSW. Clinical Therapist, JACS Toronto

Jonathan is a clinical therapist at JACS Toronto and sees individual clients, along with running groups and performing outreach within the community.
