Charitable religious organization.
S.Y.M.B.A. wascreated in January of 1946, by Jewish immigrants in Toronto who were born in the town of Stopnitz (Stopnica) in Poland. Many were survivors of the Holocaust. A branch of the Society exists in New York City, but there is no regular contact between the two branches. The objectives were to enable members and their families to meet socially, provide help, maintain a cemetery for the membership, remember the Holocaust, demonstrate solidarity with the State of Israel and engage in charitable activities. The age and/or infirmity of many members precludes a more active role in the Jewish community, volunteer work for youth and education, or taking part in demonstrations.
