The Community Security program helps community members and organizations in many ways, including:

Police coordination and incident support.

We act as a bridge between the Jewish community and the local police forces, remaining in ongoing contact with senior police officials in Toronto and York Region.

24/7 hotline.

UJA Community Security can be contacted at any time for security issues, concerns, and questions.

Security training and support.

Since August 2019, UJA Community Security has trained over 2,000 community members in critical security skills, including threat awareness, active security threat, and trauma first aid. We have also consulted with over 100 Jewish community organizations across the GTA.

Site inspections and patrols.

Our team inspects Jewish institutions to identify security gaps and offer practical solutions. We regularly patrol synagogues during peak attendance times to ensure security operations are proceeding smoothly. During the 2019 High Holidays, over 50 locations were patrolled.

Ongoing communications about best security practices.

We regularly distribute security reference materials to share best practices and communications to notify the community of security incidents relevant to our collective safety.

UJA Federation of Greater Toronto established Community Security in 2019.

Our program is a comprehensive, FREE service for the entire Jewish community in the GTA. It is based on best practices and lessons learned from local, national, and international partners, and serves as a one-stop-shop for our collective security-related needs.

Participation in our program is highly recommended for all Jewish community organizations, including synagogues, day schools, and other non-profit organizations. To access our services, community institutions should contact our hotline to arrange an initial meeting to start the process.
