Position Summary:

The Youth & Teen Engagement Specialist is accountable for executing and implementing key program components of youth (Grades 5-8) and teen (Grades 9-12) engagement and leadership to enhance Beth Tzedec’s missions and core values. The Youth & Teen Engagement Specialist is responsible for creating connections with/between Jewish youth and teens through new engagement initiatives with a view to universal participation and inclusion.

Beth Tzedec Director of Family & Young Adult Engagement

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Facilitate connection, communication and collaboration among youth and teens in the Beth Tzedec community to foster a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
  • Develop and implement engaging programs and events that align with Beth Tzedec’s mission and address the interests of youth and teens in the community.
  • Evaluate the impact of programs and initiatives and adjust to increase effectiveness.
  • Stay current on issues and emerging trends impacting Jewish youth and teens and integrate these into leadership development opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with youth and teens as well as community advisors, synagogue leaders, and parents.
  • Support youth and teen leaders in implementing community-wide programs and initiatives to increase participation.
  • Collaborate with other Jewish organizations in the area to maximize engagement opportunities.
  • Work with the Director of Family and Young Adult Engagement, Family Engagement Specialist, and Spiritual Leadership Team on the coordination of High Holy Day youth and teen programming and teen volunteers.
  • Lead, in conjunction with the Director of Family and Young Adult Engagement and Family Engagement Specialist, Shabbat and Holiday youth and teen programming.
  • Work with the Director of Education on the coordination of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program, including organizing logistics and planning a shabbaton.

 

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Jewish Education, Jewish Studies or similar field preferred
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years or more relevant work experience
  • Significant knowledge of youth development, teen issues and emerging trends, youth and teen engagement and experiential Jewish education
  • Experience in immersive Jewish education
  • Strong understanding of Jewish youth culture and experience
  • Familiarity with the religious practices of Conservative Judaism
  • Experience leading teams and projects
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in person
  • Knowledge of how to successfully engage youth and teens on social media platforms preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, ability to learn online systems and programs quickly

 

Schedule:

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) and may include evening and weekend responsibilities related to programs and/or meetings. While there will be some flexibility to work off-site, the role is Toronto-based and will require a regular presence in-office at Beth Tzedec.

Compensation:
