Kiever Synagogue, a warm and vibrant Modern Orthodox community in downtown Toronto, is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and caring Shabbat and Holiday Children's Program Leader to lead engaging programming for our youngest community members.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young children and is passionate about creating meaningful Jewish experiences in a welcoming synagogue environment.

Position Details

Program Dates: August 8 – September 21, 2026

The successful candidate must be available:

  • Every Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • September 12 and 13 (Rosh Hashanah) throughout the day
  • September 20 (evening, Erev Yom Kippur)
  • Ideally September 21 (Yom Kippur)

In addition, the position includes approximately 2.5 hours of flexible preparation time for each program, to be completed during the week.

Compensation: $35–40 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate Shabbat and holiday programming for children aged 18 months to 5 years.
  • Create a safe, warm, and engaging environment that encourages participation and positive social interaction.
  • Incorporate songs, stories, games, crafts, and other activities that reflect the spirit of Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
  • Work collaboratively with synagogue leadership and volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participating children.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or leading programs for children 18 months to 5 years old.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Screening completed within the past six months.
  • Excellent judgment, reliability, and strong personal character.

Strong Assets

Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Familiarity with Shabbat observance and Modern Orthodox synagogue life.
  • Jewish literacy and experience in Jewish educational settings.
  • Knowledge of Hebrew, Yiddish, or another Jewish language.
