
Part-Time Cantorial Soloist
Start Date: Late June 2026
Position Overview
Temple Sinai, one of Canada’s leading Reform congregations, is seeking a Part-Time Cantorial Soloist to join and contribute to its longstanding tradition of musical excellence.
This role offers the opportunity to become an integral part of a vibrant and distinguished musical culture, supporting worship and lifecycle events with professionalism, sensitivity, and artistry.
The Cantorial Soloist reports to the Senior Cantor/Music Director.
Responsibilities
Worship and Lifecycle Leadership
- Lead and support Shabbat, festival, and High Holy Day services as assigned
- Lead lifecycle events as needed
- Prepare and deliver music that reflects the high musical and spiritual standards of the congregation
Additional Opportunities (Enhanced Compensation)
- Assist with b’nei mitzvah preparation
- Teach and coach Torah and Haftarah trope
- Chant Torah as needed on Shabbat mornings or weekday mornings
Availability
- Available most Saturday mornings and Friday evenings
- Availability weekdays as needed
Ideal Candidate
- An excellent musician with strong vocal ability
- Highly reliable and available
- A strong music reader (not a pre-requisite) and the ability to learn new pieces quickly and independently
- Experienced in leading the music/prayer of Jewish services
- Committed to upholding and contributing to a tradition of musical excellence
- Skills in Torah chanting and teaching an asset
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in Jewish liturgical music
- Experience leading services and participating in lifecycle events
- Familiarity with Reform or progressive practice is an asset
Compensation
Compensation will be on a fee-per-service basis. Details will be discussed with selected candidates.
