Position Summary
The LGBTQ+ Community Connector will play a key role in growing and supporting the LGBTQ+ Jewish community at the MNjcc. Working as part of the Jewish Life team, this role will build meaningful relationships with community members, partner organizations, and volunteers to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant community.
The Community Connector will help plan, organize, promote, and host a variety of programs and events that reflect the interests and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community. They will support the ongoing growth of LGBTQ+ initiatives, identify opportunities for new programming and partnerships, and contribute to outreach efforts that encourage participation and deepen community involvement.
Working collaboratively across the organization, the Community Connector will support LGBTQ+ initiatives at the MNjcc, helping to ensure programs and events are inclusive, responsive, and reflective of the diverse voices within our community. Through thoughtful relationship-building and community engagement, this role will help create meaningful opportunities for participation and belonging.
All work within the organization ladders up to the strategic plan.
Schedule Information
- Casual, part-time, with a term of up to 12 months
- Approximately 20-25 hours per month, on average
- Flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as needed
- This position is an in-person role and requires working on-site, and within community/neighbourhood spaces.
- Most administrative tasks may be completed remotely.
- Schedule and work location to be determined in collaboration with your supervisor.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain genuine, trusting relationships with LGBTQ+ community members through one-on-one conversations, community outreach, and small gatherings.
- Program Development: Design, coordinate, and facilitate one or two inclusive programs, events, and social opportunities that reflect the interests, needs, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ Jewish community each month.
- Community Engagement: Foster welcoming spaces that encourage connection, belonging, and meaningful participation in LGBTQ+ Jewish life at the MNjcc.
- Jewish Engagement: Support community members in exploring and strengthening their connection to Jewish life, culture, learning, and traditions in ways that are relevant, inclusive, and meaningful.
- Community Connections: Connect individuals to the broader MNjcc community, LGBTQ+ initiatives, partner organizations, and Jewish community opportunities across Toronto.
- Leadership Development: Encourage and empower community members to help shape, co-create, and lead programs, events, and community initiatives.
- Partnership Development: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal departments and external LGBTQ+ and Jewish community organizations to expand opportunities for engagement and partnership.
- Tracking & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of community engagement, attendance, program outcomes, and expenses, and contribute to reporting and evaluation activities.
- Team Collaboration: Contribute ideas, feedback, and strategic recommendations to the Jewish Life team to strengthen LGBTQ+ engagement, programming, and community-building efforts.
- Community Representation: Represent the MNjcc at community events, networking opportunities, and partner meetings to promote the organization’s commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion and engagement.
Expectations
- Maintain professional and timely communication with community members, partners and staff.
- Use discretion and independent judgment when planning programs within the allocated budget.
- Be responsible for administering a $300 monthly programming budget
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to LGBTQ+ communities, including inclusive practices and intersectional approaches to community building.
- Experience building relationships and engaging diverse community members through outreach, programming, or facilitation.
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to lead inclusive group discussions, programs, and events.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 software – Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Qualifications
- Ability to move program supplies and equipment as needed (up to 20lbs)
- Be comfortable sitting, standing, and moving between different community locations.
