Position Overview
The Head of Waterfront (Rosh Agam) oversees all programs, staff, equipment, and safety protocols in, on, and around the water. This role ensures that the waterfront is safe, engaging, and well-run while leading a dynamic team of lifeguards and instructors who deliver exceptional swimming and boating experiences for our campers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety and Supervision
- Enforce all waterfront safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Supervise waterfront areas during all swim and boating activities.
- Lead and model best practices in water safety and risk management.
2. Staff Management and Training
- Hire, train, and supervise lifeguards and instructors.
- Manage the agam staff schedule, conduct performance reviews, and ensure compliance with camp and provincial policies.
- Lead pre-camp and ongoing waterfront safety and emergency training.
3. Program Development and Facilitation
- Develop and oversee a creative, inclusive, and skill-appropriate waterfront program that provides campers with the opportunity to progress through levels of different waterfront activities.
- Coordinate swimming lessons and recreational swims.
- Support and lifeguard all waterfront and boating activities, including canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and water skiing.
- Ensure programming reflects camp values, traditions, and environmental responsibility.
4. Equipment and Maintenance
- Oversee setup, takedown, and daily maintenance of all waterfront equipment, including sailboats, waterski boats and rescue boats.
- Maintain inventory and order necessary supplies.
- Ensure the waterfront area meets Ontario Camps Association (OCA) and Lifesaving Society standards.
5. Record Keeping and Administration
- Maintain records for swim tests, incident reports, and staff certifications.
- Regularly review safety logs, inspections, and risk assessments.
Qualifications
- National Lifeguard (NL) – Waterfront certification (required)
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (required)
- Instructor certifications (e.g., Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor or equivalent) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a waterfront leadership role at a camp or aquatic facility
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience supervising staff and working with children
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
- Familiarity with OCA and Lifesaving Society standards
