Hours/Schedule: 40 hours per week; flexible hours are required (evenings, mornings, afternoons)
Salary: $60,000-$70,000 annually

Role Summary

The Group Fitness Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, growth, and performance of the Group Fitness program at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre. This role owns the Group Fitness business, with accountability for program development, financial performance, team leadership, operational excellence, and the overall member experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Group Fitness portfolio, ensuring programming aligns with organizational priorities, member needs, and business objectives.
  • Own the financial and operational performance of Group Fitness, including budget management, revenue growth, expense management, forecasting, and achievement of established KPIs.
  • Develop and execute strategies to grow participation, utilization, member engagement, and revenue across Group Fitness offerings.
  • Lead the development and ongoing evolution of a diverse, competitive, and relevant Group Fitness program, including evaluating the breadth of current offerings and identifying opportunities for new programs and class formats.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for the Group Fitness member experience, ensuring consistency in program quality, service delivery, safety, and engagement.
  • Lead all aspects of instructor workforce planning, including recruitment, auditions, onboarding, training, performance management, coaching, development, and retention.
  • Provide ongoing leadership and direction to instructors, establishing clear expectations and holding the team accountable for delivering consistently high-quality programming and member experiences.
  • Oversee the Group Fitness schedule and instructor coverage, using attendance, utilization, demand, and performance data to make informed programming and scheduling decisions.
  • Monitor and analyze program KPIs, class performance, member feedback, participation trends, and instructor performance to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
  • Stay current on fitness industry trends, emerging concepts, and member preferences, introducing innovative programming that strengthens the Centre’s overall fitness offering.
  • Partner with Fitness leadership and other internal teams to develop initiatives that support member acquisition, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
  • Oversee Group Fitness studios, equipment, and operational standards to ensure facilities are safe, professional, well maintained, and positioned to deliver exceptional member experience.
  • Support and lead Group Fitness participation in special events, community initiatives, and broader organizational priorities as required.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Director, Fitness and other JCC departments to support overall Fitness Centre operations.

 

Qualifications / What You Bring

  • Experience in group fitness, fitness programming, recreation, or a related field.
  • Previous experience leading, coaching, or supervising instructors or a team.
  • Relevant Group Fitness and/or recognized fitness certification.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong leadership, communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage scheduling, payroll, reporting, and multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of current fitness trends and a passion for creating engaging, high-quality programming.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive, inclusive community environment.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
