Job Description:
Koffler Arts is seeking friendly, courteous and responsible Gallery Attendants to welcome and help orient visitors and audiences during our current and upcoming exhibitions and in-gallery artistic engagements. They will supervise one of two galleries during exhibition hours, greet and engage with visitors, ensure artwork and facilities are respected and kept safe, potentially lead small group tours, and provide occasional administrative support.
Gallery Attendants are scheduled during exhibition periods and for select programs outside regular gallery hours.
Successful candidates may be retained for future seasons and additional opportunities.
Duties include but may not be limited to:
- Ensuring the public, artwork and facilities are safe.
- Arrive in a timely manner; conduct exhibition opening and closing procedures.
- Welcome visitors, provide general information related to the organisation, exhibitions, events, e-newsletters sign-up and/or follow social media accounts.
- Greet visitors with appointments and notify staff of their arrival.
- Record accurate attendance of daily visitors, event participants and donations.
- Conduct sales of exhibition publications, beverage tickets, and/or other merchandise as needed, and keep accurate sales records.
- Assist staff with setting up chairs, tables, and other equipment for select artistic engagements as needed.
Candidate Profile:
- Enrolment in or recent graduate from a postsecondary degree program in Visual Arts, Art History, Arts Education, Arts Management, or a related field is an asset.
- Experience working in an educational, creative, and/or not-for-profit art gallery setting is desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and consistently, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to multitask, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Familiarity with anti-oppressive and inclusive frameworks; understanding of equity principles and lived experience as a Black, Indigenous, or person of colour are assets.
- Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions, with the capacity to handle occasional challenging situations using standardized or creative solutions.
- Knowledge of or proficiency in one (or more) language(s) other than English is an asset.
- Flexibility with responsibilities and scheduling, with a commitment to punctuality and confidentiality.
- Understanding of and dedication to Koffler Arts’ mission and values.
- Awareness of Koffler Arts’ past, present, and future exhibitions and events to effectively speak with visitors.
- Ability to work two shifts per week (4.75 hrs. X 2) or more than one shift (up to 16 hours per week) during opening hours between Wednesday and Sunday, especially on weekends.
- Minimum availability of two days per week for shift scheduling.
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Smart Serve certification is an asset.
Requirements:
First-aid certification is a requirement for the Gallery Attendant position.
The employee must complete first aid training at their own expense and present a certificate to the Employer no later than 30 days of start date.
