Overview

Temple Sinai Community Preschool is a premier, licensed Jewish early childhood centre dedicated to providing a nurturing, play-based learning environment. We are seeking an experienced, visionary Director to lead our school. The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the preschool, ensuring the highest standards of care, pedagogical excellence, building a warm community, and the integration of Jewish values.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Strategic Management
  • Provide vision and leadership to ensure the preschool remains a leader in early childhood education in Toronto.
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and strategic plans in alignment with Temple Sinai’s mission.
  • Develop and manage the preschool’s budget, including expense management and financial reporting, in partnership with the Finance Department.
  • Manage marketing and enrollment processes, including promotion, tours, admissions, and retention strategies.
  1. Pedagogical Leadership & Jewish Life
  • Integrate Jewish values, holidays, and Hebrew language exposure into the daily life of the school in a meaningful, age-appropriate way.
  • Ensure pedagogic excellence and exemplary care for children
  • Foster an inclusive environment that supports children of all learning styles and backgrounds.
  1. Regulatory Compliance & Operations
  • Ensure ongoing full compliance with the Ontario Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement (CWELCC), Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) and all Toronto and Ministry of Education licensing requirements.
  • Maintain rigorous health, safety, and nutrition standards in accordance with Toronto Public Health.
  • Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, facility maintenance, and administrative record-keeping.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the Ministry of Education and other regulatory bodies.
  1. Staff Development & Supervision
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate a team of dedicated Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) and support staff.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings and provide opportunities for ongoing professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and professional team culture.
  1. Family and Community Engagement
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with parents through transparent, frequent, and warm communication using Lillio, weekly newsletters, conversations, etc.
  • Involve parents through a parent committee, volunteering etc.
  • Manage the preschool social media and communications channels
  • Plan preschool family events for special occasions (e.g. Portfolio night, Grandparents days, holiday concerts)
  • Promote the preschool in the community

6.    Bridging the preschool and the broader Temple Sinai congregation

  • Partner with Temple Sinai departments (such as Communications, Finance, Operations, Education, Membership, family engagement, afterschool, clergy,) to cooperate on matters pertaining to those domains
  • Attend occasional Temple staff meetings
  • Support Temple young family programs, actively encouraging preschool families to get involved

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a licensed childcare setting, preferably in a Director or Assistant Director role.
  • Jewish Education: Knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, and values, with the ability to integrate them into an early childhood setting.
  • Certification: A member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) or the ability to be approved as such by the Ministry of Education.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of the CCEYA Framework, CWELCC, AQI and other relevant licensing requirements.

Compensation

$75,000 - $85,000  (based on qualifications and experience)
