Development Officer

Canadian Friends Of Akim 80 Chiltern Hill Road, Toronto ON

Canadian Friends of AKIM is seeking a Development Officer

Build something that matters.

Canadian Friends of AKIM supports AKIM Israel, the country’s leading organization advancing the rights, inclusion, and dignity of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

AKIM serves over 35,000 individuals and 140,000 family members across Israel. Now, we are building a stronger presence in Canada—and we’re looking for the right person to help lead that effort.

The Role

This is not a typical development position.

You will run the day-to-day operations of Canadian Friends of AKIM—building relationships, growing a donor base, telling powerful stories, and turning ideas into action.

You’ll work closely with leadership in Canada and Israel, with the opportunity to shape and grow something meaningful within the Canadian Jewish community.

If you’re entrepreneurial, mission-driven, and excited to build, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and grow a pipeline of donors, partners, and community supporters
  • Lead outreach, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts
  • Write compelling grant proposals, donor updates, and impact stories
  • Create and manage newsletters, social media, and digital content
  • Engage synagogues, federations, schools, and community leaders
  • Plan and execute events, donor meetings, and visiting delegations
  • Work closely with and activate the Board
  • Help shape strategy, budget, and growth plans
  • Coordinate donor visits to Israel and deepen connections on the ground

Who You Are

  • A builder—you take initiative and get things done
  • A strong communicator and storyteller
  • Comfortable working independently in a flexible, startup-style environment
  • Passionate about Israel, community, and inclusion
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Experienced in fundraising, community engagement, or related work (1–3+ years)
  • Familiar with the Canadian Jewish community (a strong asset)
  • Israel experience or connection (an asset)
  • Committed to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their families

Why This Role

  • Real ownership and responsibility from day one
  • Opportunity to build something with purpose and impact
  • Direct connection to meaningful work in Israel
  • Flexible, dynamic work environment
