Position Overview

JFC-UIA is seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to serve as Community Connectors within Ontario's small and emerging Jewish communities.

Community Connectors strengthen Jewish identity, culture, and community engagement by building relationships, identifying opportunities, and connecting communities with meaningful Jewish and Israel related initiatives and programs, . Working collaboratively with local leaders, volunteers, community, national and international organizations, and and Jewish federations, they help foster vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable Jewish communities.

This is an independent contractor position requiring an average commitment of approximately 10 flexible hours per week, based within the Ambassador's local community.

Connectors report to the JFC-UIA Project Lead while working collaboratively with local community leadership to establish priorities, deliver programming, and may also support neighbouring communities.


About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about Jewish culture, heritage, identity, connection with the land and people of Israel, and enjoys bringing people together through meaningful community engagement.

Community Connectors serve as local relationship builders and community catalysts by identifying opportunities, fostering partnerships, introducing local, provincial, and national initiatives, and strengthening Jewish life in their communities, collaborating with Jewish federations and organizations such as PJ Library, CIJA, and other partner agencies to expand local programming and family engagement.

The role also supports Israel's cultural, educational, and community initiatives.

 


Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders, volunteers, members, local organizations, businesses, educational institutions, and municipal partners.
  • Identify, develop, coordinate, and promote Jewish / Israel cultural, educational, and community programming.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the local community, JFC-UIA, and partner Jewish organizations.
  • Develop partnerships that strengthen Jewish identity, increase community participation, encourage volunteer engagement, and identify sponsorship opportunities.
  • Coordinate projects from planning through evaluation, including program logistics, budgets, volunteers, and event execution.
  • Maintain accurate participant information within JFC-UIA's CRM and prepare event evaluations, program reports, and other required documentation.
  • Represent JFC-UIA professionally while promoting opportunities that strengthen Jewish identity, culture, and community participation.

Role Requirements

  • Independent contractor commitment of approximately 10 flexible hours per week.
  • Primarily remote, with regular in-person community engagement.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required for community programming.
  • Ability to travel within the local region and to Toronto approximately 2–3 times annually for meetings and training.

Success in this Role

Success will be measured by the ability to:

  • Deliver and sustain meaningful community initiatives and programs.
  • Build productive relationships with community organizations, institutions, businesses, and local leaders.
  • Increase participation and awareness of Jewish programming.
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of program budgets.
  • Submit timely and accurate reports and program evaluations.

 


Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A passion for Jewish identity, culture, heritage, and community building, including a strong connection to the land and people of Israel.
  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, culture, and community organizations.
  • Experience in event planning, project coordination, volunteer leadership, or community engagement is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence presenting to small and large audiences.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using CRM systems.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with community/federation partners and JFC-UIA.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
