Bernard Betel Centre Board of Directors

Call for Nominations

2026-2027

The Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living is a publicly funded, not-for-profit agency, that focuses on empowering seniors to lead active, creative, and healthy lifestyles rooted in Jewish values and open to people of all backgrounds. Based in north central Toronto and serving over 5,000 adults 55+ annually, we provide exemplary, multilingual educational, cultural and wellness programs in a safe and supportive environment to encourage healthy, active and creative living.

The Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected at the Annual and Special Meeting of Members. The call for nominations is to fill existing Board vacancies at this meeting.

This year, the Annual and Special Meeting of Members is scheduled for Tuesday September 15, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario.

For the 2026-2027 year candidates must reside in Toronto due to City of Toronto funding requirements.

The Governance and Nominating Committee is particularly interested in candidates with previous Board experience and skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Legal (law degree strongly preferred);
  • Government Relations and Advocacy;
  • Finance and Accounting (individuals with a professional designation);
  • Quality and Risk;
  • Health and Social Service Administration.

Familiarity and interest in the Jewish community are assets. We strongly encourage applicants from diverse communities, including those from equity-deserving groups, to apply.

Board members are elected to a two-year term and eligible to serve five terms for a maximum of ten years. All Board Members are expected to attend eight to ten Board meetings per year, and sit on a Board committee with a further commitment of four to six meetings per year.

Interested individuals may submit their candidacy or nominate others to the Board by submitting a cover letter and resume by June 12, 2026. The Bernard Betel Centre is committed to an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. Accommodations are available upon request throughout the nomination and selection process.  Materials are available in accessible formats upon request.

Please submit to the address or email below. Interviews will be held in person at the Bernard Betel Centre.

We thank all candidates in advance for their interest in the work of the Bernard Betel Centre. All inquiries will receive a response.
