Ukraine and the Jews: A Complicated History with Prof. Stephen Berk

The invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces has unleashed a humanitarian crisis throughout Europe, destabilizing worldwide security partnerships and markets. With one of the largest Jewish populations outside Israel, the Jews of Ukraine are also facing threats to their safety, security and well-being, forced to flee to other nations or to take up arms against the aggressors.

Professor Stephen Berk joins us via Zoom to look back through the thousand-year-long complicated history of the Ukrainian Jews, times of cultural, religious and economic achievement and others of persecution and discrimination, and the implications of that history on our current relationship with Ukraine and Russia in light of current events.
