Refugee Shabbat: Exploring Jewish Values in Action

With more than 84 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, one in 100 people now find themselves without a safe place to lay their heads at night. Because of our history and our values, the Jewish people continue to hold a unique connection to these most vulnerable people. Our texts and traditions tell us to welcome the stranger, but what does this mean in practice?

Join us this Refugee Shabbat to find out how different Jewish communities are putting their values into action. We will hear from HIAS and JIAS leadership from Canada, Europe and the United States about the ways that the global Jewish community is rising to meet the challenges of this unprecedented moment in the refugee crisis: advocating for more humane asylum and refugee policies, engaging in direct action to support and sponsor refugee newcomers in their communities, and tackling the ever-present shadow of xenophobia.
