Toronto artist Kristina Lahde alters and reformats ordinary objects and material through a process of geometric reorganization in which measurement and pattern play a significant role. Envelopes, newspapers, telephone books and measuring tapes have an overlooked potential, an internal logic that Lahde manipulates to de-familiarize them, shifting, expanding, inverting, or transforming the. For her solo show at the Koffler Gallery, Lahde expands her work to large scale and into the se of three-dimensional space. The new installation responds to the architecture of the site, extending from wall surfaces into the gallery space and investigating optical illusions, angles, parallel lines and crossing perspectives to redefine the environment.
