Classi Lectures together with the Toronto Jewish Genealogical Society bring you
The Jews of the Balkans - Jewish Bulgaria: A Sephardic History
Wednesday. 15 November at 4 pm ET with Joseph Benatov.
As part of our continued partnership with Classi Lectures, JGS Toronto members can attend the Joseph Benatov lecture at no cost. To discover how culture and learning unite through online lectures and in-person travels, please visit Classi Learning, https://classilearning.com/.
Join us for a dynamic exploration of Bulgaria’s rich Jewish heritage from antiquity to the present.
Learn about Sephardic rabbinic luminaries Joseph Karo and Eliezer Papo and their connection to Bulgaria. We will also focus on the post-Ottoman modern period and the arrival of Zionism to Bulgaria.
An important story – the survival of 50,000 Bulgarian Jews during the Holocaust – where some of the most prominent politicians, clergymen, and intellectuals stood up for their Jewish neighbours.
