The Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies and the Department of Music in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design are proud to present the panel discussion "Immigrant Waves and Musical Tastes: Jewish Musical Cultures in Canadian Contexts," the last event in the inaugural year of our "Sound and Sense: Jewish Music @ York" series.

This live-only, listen-and-learn roundtable explores the great range of Jewish musical expression in the long arch of Canadian history. Expert panelists offer insight on three Jewish musical cultures from three distinct moments, with musical samples and commentary: Eric Stein on pre-WWII Yiddish immigrant musical worlds, Christopher Silver on post-war Sephardi / Moroccan immigrant musical worlds, and Miranda Crowdus on the contemporary Montreal / Canadian musical scene with its hybrid mix of immigrant musical worlds. Facilitated discussion and open-floor Q&A to follow. Join us for an exciting late afternoon of sound and sense.

Parking is available at the Student Services Parking Garage (15 James Gillies St, North York, ON).

The Accolade East Building is located immediately outside the York University subway station (TTC line 1) in front of the left hand exit.
