The Luke Sklar Mental Health Initiative of the Holy Blossom Temple Presents:

A Panel Discussion with Author Stephen Mills, Dr. Guila Benchimol, and Tracy Doyle

Monday, December 5, 7:30 pm

This intimate discussion is propelled by Stephen Mills’ new book, “CHOSEN: A Memoir of Stolen Boyhood” – a searing and courageous account of sexual abuse at a Jewish summer camp and its lifelong aftershocks. No community, including our own, is spared this devastating issue. Our panellists will bring it out of the dark, silent corners of denial to a place of better understanding, acknowledgement and response.

Our panel includes Dr. Guila Benchimol, highly sought-after consultant on gender, abuse and power in faith communities, and

Tracy Doyle, a child welfare worker from Jewish Family and Child Service.

This is the LSMHI’s first in-person program in over 2 ½ years.

We are honoured that all 3 of our panellists will be with us at Holy Blossom Temple. Please join us.

There will be an opportunity for a book signing with Stephen at the conclusion of the program and refreshments will be served.

A live, online webinar link will also be available for those who cannot attend in person.

Stephen Mills is the author of CHOSEN: A Memoir of Stolen Boyhood and co-author of Next of Kin, a Los Angeles Times Best Book of the Year. The New York Times called CHOSEN “a searing, haunting, urgent cri de coeur”. The Pulitzer-prize-winning novelist, Junot Diaz, says CHOSEN is “a work of shattering, almost unbearable radiance. It is destined to be a classic because this is a book that will save lives.” Since 1983, Stephen has advised and written for an array of public interest organizations in the fields of human rights and environmental protection. He is honoured to serve as an Ambassador for CHILD USA, the leading U.S. non-profit fighting for the civil rights of children.

If you have a question you’d like addressed by our panellists during the program, in confidence, please see the directions on your registration form.
