Derek Penslar is the William Lee Frost Professor of Jewish History at Harvard University, Director of Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies and Co-chair of the Presidential Task Force on Antisemitism. His focus is the relationship between modern Israel and diaspora Jewish societies, global nationalist movements, European colonialism, and post-colonial states. Among Penslar's recent books are Theodor Herzl: The Charismatic Leader (2020), and Zionism: An Emotional State (2023).
