Janet, whose family were members of Temple Sinai and whose father, George Horvath, was guest cellist at Kol Nidre services for many years, grew up knowing that her parents were Holocaust survivors, but it wasn’t until just prior to her father’s death that she discovered a clue that enabled her to unravel her parents’ past including her father’s participation in a 20-member orchestra of concentration camp survivors that included two programs in 1948 led by legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein. Interwoven in this story is Janet’s life as a child of Holocaust survivors and her experiences as a cellist.
