Founded in 1970, by the United Jewish Welfare Fund (now UJA Federation), the Association of Jewish Seniors (AJS) unites seniors’ groups and members-at-large within the Jewish and general community, including Seniors’ Clubs and Retirement Residences. It is a collective voice to inform and increase awareness about health, social, economic, and recreational issues affecting the well being and lifestyles of seniors; this is accomplished through monthly educational meetings and special holiday events, including the Annual Community Seder. AJS provides an advocacy role to public policy makers by approaching government on all levels about issues that involve the welfare of seniors. AJS is affiliated with the Bernard Betel Centre.
