For those who missed it during Jewish Music Week - and for those who want to hear it again - Charles Heller brings the inspiring song cycle Tramvay Lider back to the Narayever! Tramvay Lider is a musical setting of Yiddish poems written by acclaimed Yiddish poet Shimen Nepom who worked as a College St. streetcar conductor until his death in 1939. The poems tell of life on the streetcar and this performance is a lovely example of Toronto culture echoing through the decades. Accompanied by Brahm Goldhamer, pianist.
For over 50 years, composer Charles Heller has been involved in Jewish music as conductor, arranger and performer, working with leading choirs and cantors including the late Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach z”l. His arrangements and original compositions are used in synagogues throughout the world, and his music has been performed by some of the world’s leading orchestras. Charles is the author of the award-winning book What to Listen For in Jewish Music.
