Passover is a time for Jewish families around the world to celebrate freedom. Sadly, this Passover Ukraine’s Jews face a new threat to their freedom, and their lives. Ukraine was already one of the poorest Jewish communities in the world. Now, many have been forced to flee their homes and are struggling to survive. This year – Global Seder is being expanded to include supporting the urgent needs of Ukraine’s Jewish community, including food, medicine, security, and evacuation.
Thousands of families in our community are struggling to put food on their tables – many for the first time in their lives. In response, UJA has massively scaled up our support of food delivery programs and initiatives to combat hunger. When you give to UJA’s Global Seder, you strengthen these critical programs – including our annual Passover food drive. At Passover, nobody should be forced to choose between buying food and other basic necessities.
Dollars raised through Global Seder support UJA-funded programs that help alleviate hunger and poverty in the Greater Toronto Area and around the world, including in Cuba, the Former Soviet Union and Israel. Additional allocations from the 2022 Global Seder will be made to support Ukraine’s Jewish community in the wake of the devastating war taking place in the country.
