About the Opportunity
UJA Genesis is the central address for community mobilization at UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, with a goal of cultivating a community of giving. This is a new approach to engagement with community through cultivation of experiences, expertise and time to grow with UJA personally, professionally and philanthropically over time. UJA Genesis’ vision is to mobilize community members to give of their time, expertise, and philanthropy to address the most pressing issues facing our community. Our mission is to inspire, organize, and support community members so they can give of their time, expertise and philanthropy to make a powerful and strategic impact in the community.
Under the supervision of the Director, Community Mobilization to Combat Antisemitism the Associate Director, Community Mobilization to Combat Antisemitism will be a core member of the Genesis team. The main objective of this role is to empower members of the Jewish community for proactive outreach to individuals of different backgrounds. The ideal candidate will excel in forming meaningful relationships, possesses strong critical thinking skills, and is skilled at establishing a strong network of connections.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Mobilize the Jewish community to engage with individuals of various backgrounds where opportunities exist
- Motivate and support community members to interact with people who may not share their Jewish identity, with the aim of promoting understanding and forging relationships to combat antisemitism and hate.
- Foster genuine connections between the Jewish community and others by fostering collaborations, and creating shared experiences focused on combating antisemitism
- Develop meaningful relationships, either by initiating partnerships or integrating antisemitism-related content into existing partnerships, to promote understanding and bridge-building
- Plan and execute opportunities both with long lead times, and under times where it’s necessary to convene quickly and decisively
- Collaborate closely with the Associate Director and Director of Community Mobilization to Combat Antisemitism, along with other key stakeholders both within and outside the organization.
- Partner effectively with the communications team to craft compelling messaging and coherent strategies that resonate with the community and drive engagement.
- Organize and participate in community-focused activities, programs, and events.
- This is not strictly a desk job, there will be days spent on your feet.
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Degree in Business or Politics, or equivalent experience in Volunteer Management, Community Development, or Not-for-Profit Management
- 5 Years of experience years’ relevant work experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to quickly build rapport with colleagues, and stakeholders, donors, lay leadership, community, etc.
- A strong community organizer with the ability to convene, mobilize, and facilitate dialogue and to navigate difficult conversations
- Ability to respond in real-time, move quickly from ideation to implementation, work and consult with multiple stakeholders while moving quickly
- Strategic thinker, who sees value in creativity and collaboration
- Ability to create curated experiences for individuals, families, and groups
- Experience in measuring outcomes and revising initiatives based on such outcomes.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, innovation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with non-profits, the Toronto Jewish community and/or experience in Jewish Communal Service considered an asset
This is a full-time permanent position. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work.
