UJA Federation of Greater Toronto (“UJA”) is committed to protecting your personal information. We highly value your trust and recognize that maintaining this trust requires that we be open and accountable in our treatment of your personal information that you share with us.

Everyone at UJA must comply with this Privacy Commitment to you and with our Corporate Privacy Policy.

Drawing on philanthropic, volunteer, and professional leadership, UJA works to strengthen the quality of Jewish life in Greater Toronto, Canada, Israel, and around the world. Like many non-profit organizations, our work involves the handling of personal information which may be used to distinguish, identify, or contact individuals. This information includes whether an individual participated in UJA’s and other community programs, whether and how much an individual has donated to UJA, and an individual's private contact information.  

Respecting privacy and safeguarding the integrity of personal information is a foremost priority. Our responsibility is to limit the use of personal information solely to what we legitimately need to do our work. For example, we need personal information to:

  1. Conduct our fundraising campaigns, which includes understanding our donors and communicating with them information about our work and how they can be involved
  2. Properly administer pledges and gifts from our valued donors
  3. Provide and enhance the programs and services we deliver to our communities
  4. Aggregate so that we can conduct research and evaluation on the impact of our work

UJA collects personal information when, for example, you:

  • Attend our fundraising events
  • Participate in our community programs and services
  • Visit our website, fill out one of our surveys, sign up as a volunteer, subscribe to UJA newsletters and updates, and other interactive communication you engage in on our website

UJA's web pages contain online forms that allow visitors to make a donation. The personal and credit card information provided on these forms are used only to process these donations.

When you access UJA's website whether by computer, mobile phone, or other device, we automatically collect certain information about your use of our website, using technologies such as cookies. This information may include, without limitation: geographical location and IDs of your computer, mobile, or other device; bandwidth used; system and connection performance; browser type and version; operating system; referral source; length of visit; page views; IP address or other unique identifier for your computer, mobile phone, or other device; your mobile carrier. A third-party cookie is one that is set by another website or social media platform that you use when you visit UJA’s website, and these cookies are often used to track users across multiple websites. UJA uses third-party cookies to establish or maintain ongoing relationships with visitors to our website. Visitors who have concerns about these cookies can activate third-party cookie blocking offered by most browsers.

UJA collects and analyzes website usage and other data about our members and donors strictly for internal purposes, and we use Google Analytics, Survey Monkey and Salesforce (a CRM), among other services, to analyze the data.

UJA does not sell, rent, exchange, or otherwise disclose any personal information that we collect to third parties. Personal Information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except if we get your consent, or as required or permitted by law.

When we choose to have certain services provided by third-party providers, such as fundraising and donation payment processing services, we select providers very carefully. We take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the service provider protects your personal information.

Our privacy commitment includes protecting your personal information with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. For example, we use password protocols and secure websites to protect personal information, and our software is routinely updated to maximize protection of confidential information. Our employees are required to sign confidentiality agreements, and reasonable safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not accessed, disclosed, or shared more widely than is necessary. We also take measures to ensure the integrity of the information you provide.

Frequently Asked Questions on UJA’s Privacy Commitment

What information do you collect on donors and why do you collect it?

We collect the following information:
Names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and business contact information, as well as credit card and banking information to process gift receipts. We also frequently ask donors to fill out surveys. All donor information and contact history help us understand our donors, enhance our donor services, evaluate our programs and processes, and provide efficient services.

The information we collect is used to process donations, keep our donors informed about the activities of UJA, and ask for support for our mission. If you are on our email list, for example, we may use your email address to display UJA activities on external websites and other social media platforms that you visit.

What is a website cookie?

A “cookie” is a resource created by your browser in order to remember certain pieces of information for the web server to reference during the same or subsequent visit to the UJA website. Cookies are used for many purposes, such as to track language preferences, provide customized web page content, and display website navigation history. A third-party cookie is one that is set by another website and often used to track users across multiple websites. UJA uses third-party cookies to establish or maintain ongoing relationships with visitors to our website. Can all UJA staff see my information?

Staff members have restricted access based upon their need to know information in order to perform their job duties.

How do you protect my information?

All staff members receive privacy training to ensure that they are able to follow our Privacy Policy and procedures. In addition, they are required to sign confidentiality agreements on a regular basis as a condition of their employment. Information is stored in locked files and secure computer systems. Discarded personal information is shredded or otherwise securely destroyed.

Do you sell, rent, or trade your fundraising list?

UJA does NOT sell, rent, or trade its donor lists or any personal information.

What can I do if I am concerned about the way my personal information has been handled?

UJA values the relationship and trust we have with our donors. We take all inquiries and concerns seriously. Our Privacy Officer is available to speak to you about your concern or to review your personal information with you.
